RIP Ernst Winter

Ernst Winter died 30 Nov 2011. In roughly chronological
order:
- Ernst was German, a sailor for much of his earlier
life,
- he humped concrete in Australia,
- retired & moved to Munich, had better English than
German by his return, he told Julian.
- Ernst was a friend of Norbert
Gary Julian Astrid
etc in Munich.
- Ernst sometimes spoke some Japanese with Astrid
- In 1991 ordered a stack of maybe 40 floppies from Bill
Jollitz, 1st ed. of 386BSD (see
articles in Dr. Dobb's Journal & I recall CT Mag (Pub.
Heise Verlag, in German), fore
runner of FreeBSD & other BSDs for PCs etc,
- Ernst arranged use of servers (PC & Sun, FreeBSD
& OpenBSD) at Norbert's, for
Berkeley In Munich BSD
group, that extended to Berklix,
- Ernst was into leather working, Julian ordered some
special leather tools for Ernst from Birmingham, as he had no
Sterling account. No idea what happened to his leather
working tools, prob went to his relatives.

Ernst last lived in Buesingen am Hochrhein a German exclave
surrounded by Switzerland
near his lady friend Ursula in Switzerland.
