Subject: No_Unsubscribed_From To reply Set From address_you_receive_on From: "Julian H. Stacey" Sender: bad_from@mailman I append: http://www.berklix.com/~jhs/std/no_wrong_from.txt Someone's post to list got automatically silently discarded, (& happened to be noticed as someone cc'd didn't see a copy also via the list) Make sure your posts don't also get automatically silently discarded unseen: Per automatic list footers: To reply: Set From: exact_address_you_receive_on If You Don't See Your Posting Broadcast Via List In Minutes, It's failed. Don't wait, It's not held for a moderator later, (Berklix allows no censors). Your post has been silently permanently discarded by robot, unseen by humans: Fix Your Emitted From: Address To Match Your Subscribed Address: If you fail to match to the <> component of your subscribed address (as seen in headers of your incoming list mail) then mailman.berklix.org has no way to know you'r not another spammer, so your list posting is Silently Discarded without warning. For Innocent Users, Who Wonder If Silent Discard Seems A Bit Extreme: Blame masquerading spammers, they've made unusable the other configuration options mailman offers to list owners: Post to list from un-subscribed addresses: Not on Berklix Lists: Would be an open spam conduit. Bounce to list owner / Hold for approval: Not on Berklix Lists: Nearly all spam, the busy owner of many Berklix lists has no time, nor wish to review/ moderate / censor & delay content. Fix your From: address & you will be instantly relayed to all list readers. Noisy Reject back to purported sender : Not on Berklix Lists: It would create back scatter spam, from servers to masqueraded innocent non senders. Worse if they too have a rejector creating a positive feedback loop. Silent Discard: Yes on Berklix Lists: Your Failed posts are discarded Unseen If you can't remember if the list relayed your post, check the archive: http://mailman.berklix.org/mailman/private/LISTNAME/ Add & Remove Your addresses: http://mailman.berklix.org/mailman/LISTNAME/ Mailman allows people to subscribe multiple addresses, so one can send from home or work etc, but optionally only receive to one address. If you are subscribed to multiple lists there's even a check box to optionally turn on / off receipt on all other lists for your same address.
